How much can sacrifice a man to save another one? Is it reasonable to risk the lives of several people to save one of them? If yes, is this individual so important? What about conscience, consequences and the death of several in order to protect only one? Steven Spielberg's film may not answer the questions but most importantly it asks them.

Captain John Miller with his detachment consisting of seven people moves to the area occupied by the enemy to find and bring back home a private soldier, James Ryan whose brothers died at the front. The USA government tries to smooth the mother's pain in this way. The expedition is not going to be easy. Except for the invasion of the allies in Normandy the participants of the mission have second thoughts whether it is worth the effort. The film begins with the incredible scene of the invasion of the beaches of Normandy. Thousands of soldiers gathered at the beach, hundreds of bodies, the sea red of blood. All the elements make a huge impression on the viewer. Additionally it is worth mentioning fantastic dynamic shots by a Pole, Janusz Kaminski. The viewers have an impression that they participate in all events. No wonder as the scene is said to be one of the best military scenes in the history of the cinema. The music reflects well the atmosphere, tension and emotions of the characters. The dialogues are realistic, the actors play on the highest level. Matt Damon and Tom Hanks' roles must be mentioned. The film keeps us tense from the beginning scene to the last words.

It is worth seeing. In my opinion it is one of the best military films of the last years. Fantastic shots, sound, dialogues, scenes and sequences create an unforgettable spectacle which one should definitely see. I recommend the film and give it the highest possible score as it is worth it.
